IUCN mourns the loss of leading conservationist Paul Mafabi

IUCN is deeply saddened by the passing of Mr Paul Mafabi – a leader in Ecosystem Management who made key contributions towards wetlands management in the region and globally.

Paul Mafabi

Paul served as a Commission member of the IUCN Commision on Ecosystem Management where he brought in his expertise on wetlands management

In Uganda, Paul coordinated a number of IUCN programmes and provided strategic leadership. He was the founding chair of the IUCN Uganda National Committee which he served so diligently and passionately. It will be difficult to measure the impact he had on the environment and the many people’s lives he touched personally and professionally.

He was a thoughtful and generous friend of IUCN and we are very grateful for the many contributions that he made. We are saddened to lose such a loyal and committed friend. May his soul rest in perfect peace

Our deepest condolences go out to Paul’s family and the entire conservation community worldwide, which he so diligently served over the years.
