[Mechanisms and factors of angiogenesis].

A F, Poveshchenko V I, Konenkov
Abstract

Angiogenesis, the process that leads to the formation of new vessels out of pre-existing capillaries, or neovascularization, continues to be a topic of major scientific interest. Angiogenesis, is a sequence of events that is fundamental to many physiologic and pathologic processes such as cancer, ischemic diseases, and chronic inflammation. In this review we highligt the current knowledge on angiogenesis regulation and report on the recent findings in angiogenesis regulation and clinical studies. As knowledge of the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate neovascularization continues to emerge, there is increasing hope that new discoveries will lead to newer therapies that target angiogenesis as reliable option for disease therapy. Angiogenesis inhibition is the important approach in treatment of such pathologies as a cancer. We discuss the potentials, limitations, and challenges within this field of research, in light of the development of new therapeutic strategies for diseases in which angiogenesis plays an important role.
