A quantitative study of the effect of strychnine on deep reflexes

W. W. Tuttle
Abstract

The effect of small doses of strychnine on the knee-jerk and Achillesjerk of 4 subjects was studied quantitatively. The following conclusions seem justified: Strychnine increases the extent of the knee-jerk, the percent of increase depending on the susceptibility of the subject to it. Strychnine augments the Achilles-jerk, the extent of augmentation depending on the susceptibility of the subject. There is a low correlation between the percent of the augmentation of the knee-jerk and the Achilles-jerk.
