Absorption and Extraction Symposium

Abstract

Division of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Columbia University, New York, N. Y., December 28 and 29, 1936 EXCHANGE of ideas and new results on the industrially important subjects, Absorption and Extraction, occupied some 200 members of the Division of industrial and Engineering Chemistry, A. C. S., attending a two-day symposium at Columbia University, New York, N. Y., December 28 and 29, 1936. T. A. Boyd presided at the opening of the symposium. Fractional distillation in columns of 200 to 500 equivalent theoretical plates for the separation of the isotopes of oxygen was described by Hoffman and Urey in the opening session of the symposium. Subsequent papers dealt with liquid-liquid and liquid-gas absorption and extraction systems from both theoretical and industrial points of view. It is expected that the fourteen papers forming the symposium will be published in INDUSTRIAL AND ENGINEERING CHEMISTRY for March, 1937. They cover solvent extraction, carbon dioxide and chlorine absorption and ...
