Introduction: Prof. Jacques P. Caen, born in 1927, obtained his Doctor of Medicine in 1951. He is a corresponding member of French Academy of Sciences, a member of French Academy of Technical Sciences, and in 2001, was elected foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.Prof. Jacques P. Caen has published about 950 papers and eight monographs on hematology. His main contributions are as follows: he clarified the diseases of platelet function deficiency; In 1972, he proposed the classification of Glanzmann thrombasthenia. He is the first one in the world who has expounded the relationship between human platelet structure and its functions, and discovered the protein of an integrin type. He is the first one who has expounded similar platelet aggregation and adherent autoantibody. He originally applied monoclonal antibody (AN51) to identify the heterozygote and homozygote in giant platelet syndrome. He first reported a new case of severe familial thrombophilia in the world, and the cause lies in that the point mutation of amino acid at 554 position, end C on Chain Aa of fibrinogen leads to the structural abnormality of blood clots, and that damages the fibrinolysis induced by plasminogen. He thus provided a new strategy in curing thrombus.
