IRTCES Dispatching Lecturer for the Training Course Held at Pyongyang, DPRK

 

         IRTCES NEWS: Within the framework of UNESCO��s Water Sciences activities, Training course on Flood Forecasting and Preparedness was organized at Pyongyang, DPRK from June 13-17, 2006. As requested by the UNESCO Office Beijing, IRTCES dispatched Mr. An Bo from the IWHR, a specialist working in the filed of flood forecasting and flood prevention to deliver a lecture for the training course in order to meet demand of DPRK.

The training course on Flood Forecasting and Preparedness was held in the Koryo Hotel, Pyongyang, D.P.R. Korea from June 13-17, 2006. It is part of training workshop on flood disaster prevention preparedness hosted by the State Hydro- meteorological Administration (SHMA) from 2- 17, June, 2006. Over 20 researchers involved in flood disaster prevention and hydrology works participated in the training course. They were from Hydrology Research Institute and several hydrology stations under State Hydro-meteorological Administration (SHMA), Kim Il Song University, HamHung Hydraulic Power University and Hydro-meteorological College of DPRK.

The organizer of the training course paid great attention to the training course and made very good logistic arrangements, such as providing effective facilities including qualified translators and advanced audio and visual equipments. In addition, the directors of Hydrology Research Institute and Flood Disaster Prevention Division attended the training course from beginning to the end. All participants considered that training workshop was successful and helpful for both capacity building of Korean experts and establishment of flood disaster prevention structure in D.P.R. Korea.
