ICIWaRM Hosts Pakistan Water Resources Delegation

ALEXANDRIA, VA—April 7, 2011.The International Center for Integrated Water Resources Management (ICIWaRM) recently hosted a Pakistan water resources delegation visiting Washington, D.C. The visit involved describing the role of ICIWaRM and the Institute for Water Resources (IWR) in water resources management. In addition, there was much discussion concerning the sequence of events that led to the recent floods in Pakistan. Data were shared to continue collaborative efforts on an integrated flood management analysis of the Indus River basin.

On the week of March 7, ICIWaRM team members met with Southeast Asia staff at the World Bank to address gaps and technical needs for Pakistan flood management follow-up efforts. ICIWaRM staff members Eugene Stakhiv, Guillermo Mendoza, Jason Giovannettone and Landon Marston presented the ICIWaRM post-flood report for Pakistan and a preliminary status report on modeling work. World Bank staff provided feedback on the actual events that led to the Pakistan floods and guidance on new directions, including an analysis of levees along the Indus.
