The first month of summer is expected to start warmer in the majority of the nation, according to NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center. Odds favor above average temperatures in June over most of the western, southern, and eastern sections of the nation. Below normal temperatures are not in the forecast across the country.

The Plains, Mississippi Valley and Southeast are forecast to see a wetter than normal month. A small pocket of drier than normal conditions are expected in the Pacific Northwest.

The outlook for the month ahead was based primarily on model guidance, statistical tools, and current soil moisture conditions. Neutral sea surface temperatures are expected to continue in the Pacific Ocean, meaning no El Nino or La Nina.
