Disney Plus plans to launch its streaming service in Japan in June. The streaming service will be operated as an exclusive partnership with domestic operator NTT Docomo. Starting 11 June, customers will be able to subscribe to Disney Plus through NTT Docomo’s retail and digital network, Variety reports. Disney Plus will be available for a monthly fee of USD 6.49 (JPY 700).
Consumers can also take up the Disney Plus service on disneyplus.jp with Docomo’s d Account. Current subscribers of Disney Deluxe, a Disney entertainment service jointly launched by Disney Japan and NTT Docomo in March 2019, will see their service upgraded to Disney Plus at no additional cost. In Japan, Disney Plus will initially offer more than 500 feature films and 100 series including Disney Plus originals and other titles from Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic.
According to Disney Plus data, the streaming service currently has 54.5 million subscribers worldwide. Disney Plus is already available in the US, much of Europe, Australia and New Zealand. It launched in India in partnership with the Hotstar streaming business that Disney acquired with Twentieth Century Fox.
