The UNESCO International Hydrological Programme (IHP) has organized two days Inception Meeting to launch the 2-year GEF financed Trans-boundary Water Assessment Programme (TWAP) Component on Assessment of Trans-boundary Aquifers and SIDS Groundwater Systems.

The meeting has been hosted by the UNESCO Office for World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) at their premises in Colombella near Perugia, Italy. The project aims to conduct a global assessment of the status of trans-boundary water systems, in cooperation with partner organizations and institutions at the national, regional and global level. The meeting was attended by more than 50 participants representing project partners and international and regional organisations associated with the project. The meeting discussed the project's programme of activities and agreed on the tasks to be carried out in 2013.
