Another Atlantic storm is trained on the Louisiana coast. AgDay Meteorologist Matt Yarosewick says a couple of high pressure systems will turn the storm to the north and help it intensify.
“We're looking at Hurricane Delta over some very warm waters here in the Gulf of Mexico, but notice this high pressure over Texas and another high pressure sitting in the Southeast, and that's going to stop Delta from going to the west and turn it back up towards the Louisiana Gulf Coast,” Yarasowick says.
That strengthening could make Delta more significant than some of the previous 2020 storms in the region and could bring more significant rain.
“It will likely gain strength and possibly be a major hurricane by the time it does make landfall somewhere, I would say in the Louisiana Gulf Coast, maybe the very Eastern tip of Texas as we head into Friday evening, and then lots of rainfall associated with this system, upwards of 10-12 inches in some places are possible along with storm surge and very strong gusty winds with this hurricane,” Yarosewick says.
