The MPIF reports that Pierre W Taubenblat, FAPMI, has passed away age 91.

Taubenblat, born in Poland and educated in France and the US, worked for more than 30 years at AMAX Base Metals before founding PROMET where he served as president.

With a focus on copper, iron, and precious metals, he had a major impact on research, process and product development, design manufacturing and production, education/teaching, and many other areas of the PM industry, the MPIF said.

Taubenblat was an active member of APMI for over 40 years, was a current chairman of the APMI Editorial Review Committee, and the Metro New York Chapter of APMI. He was the chairman of the 1976 MPIF International Powder Metallurgy Conference, the MPIF Technical Board, and the MPPA Standards Committee. He was also awarded four patents including new classes of infiltrants, high-strength copper-based materials, and smelting and refining of metallurgical dusts. He published over 40 articles and technical papers and edited four books. He received the MPIF Distinguished Service to Powder Metallurgy Award in 1985, the APMI Fellow Award in 2008, and the ASM International Fellow in 1997.
