Several United Nations agencies will join experts from around the globe to discuss the theme “Saving lives, reducing losses”, highlighting the importance for countries to have the capacity and the appropriate platforms to gather risk-related information, monitor hazards, deliver warning messages to the local populations, and ensure cost-effectiveness.
On behalf of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) and based on his experience as Head of the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (IOTWMS), Dr Srinivasa Tummala will speak about the need of increased international cooperation in building resilience against hydrometeorological phenomena including tsunamis, earthquakes, landslides, inter alia.
The Multi-Hazard Early Warning Conference is a product of collaboration between UNESCO’s IOC, the Government of Mexico, and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR).
For all those interested in submitting a poster, the Conference is calling for poster submissions until March 31 st 2017.
