AI Reshaping Engineering and Industry Forum of the 26th China International Industry Fair held in Shanghai

On October 12, 2026, the AI Reshaping Engineering and Industry Forum of the 26th China International Industry Fair (CIIF) was held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). The forum was hosted by the Center for Strategic Studies of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, and organized by the International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology (IKCEST) and Donghao Lansheng (Group) Co., Ltd. Qian Feng, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Chen Jie, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended and addressed the forum. Zhou Ji, Honorary Chairman of the Presidium of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Li Erping and Shen Zuojun, Foreign Members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering also delivered reports at the forum; Carme Artigas, Co-Chair of the United Nations High-level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence; and industry experts attended the forum. Nearly 200 participants attended on site, including CIIF exhibitors, representatives from key Shanghai enterprises, relevant municipal and district departments and functional zones.

In his address, Vice President Chen Jie noted that AI is bringing profound changes to the paradigms of engineering innovation, the landscape of industry, and the rules of international competition. In terms of AI reshaping engineering and industry, he stressed three points. First, AI should be deeply embedded in the entire process of engineering science and technology innovation, and the deep integration of AI and engineering science and technology should be promoted. Second, AI should take deep roots in the fertile ground of industry; leading enterprises in industrial chains should be encouraged to open up application scenarios, so that the dividends of intelligent technology can be accelerated into new quality productive forces. Third, AI should advance steadily on a well-regulated track; safety evaluation, ethical norms, and collaborative governance mechanisms should be improved; the development of education, science and technology, and talent should be advanced in an integrated manner; and active participation in global AI governance should be pursued to help foster an open, inclusive and beneficial-to-all global environment for AI development.

Zhou Ji and Chen Jie delivered keynote reports respectively on next-generation intelligent manufacturing and building a manufacturing powerhouse, and on the large-scale evolution of industrial AI agents and industrial reshaping. Li Erping and Shen Zuojun, together with experts from international organizations and innovative enterprises, conducted systematic exchanges on the latest research progress and engineering practices in frontier areas, including digital and intelligent empowerment for high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, AI + supply chains empowering enterprises to go global, economic governance of industrial AI, the theory and application of industrial design agent architecture, and the industrial deployment of embodied intelligent robots.

The forum also released two deliverables: the "Shanghai 15th Five-Year Plan Joint Action for Co-building a General Intelligent Foundation for New Industrialization" and the "Yangtze River Delta Advanced Manufacturing Development Report."
