The grand opening ceremony

Over 400 scientists, corporate representatives, and high-tech entrepreneurs and policy makers and young students from 21 countries and 270 institutions, gathered at Sanya City and attended the conference to discuss and exchange ideas on various fields and aspects, including marine science and technology innovation, marine resource development and utilization, deep-sea archaeology, and blue economy and financial cooperation. The conference was hosted by Ms. Xie Jing, the Vice Governor of Hainan Province.

Invited experts such as Mr. Miguel Clüsener-God, former Director of the Ecology and Earth Science Department and Secretary of the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Program of UNESCO, Academician Wu Lixin of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of the Laoshan Laboratory, Mr. Mochammad Firman Hidayat, Deputy Minister of the Coordinating Ministry of Marine Affairs and Investment of Indonesia, Academician Lin Zhongqin of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chair Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Mr. Anthony O’Sullivan, Chief Development Officer of Teck Metals Ltd., Mr. Liu Ke'an, Vice President of CRRC Corporation Limited, and Mr. Song Jianzhong, researcher at the Archaeological Research Center of the National Cultural Heritage Administration, delivered keynote speeches on topics such as marine and coastal sites ecological protection, transparent ocean and new quality productivity, development of marine equipment open-sea technology, deep-sea mineral resource development and environmental protection, and the discovery and exploration of marine civilization, etc.

During the conference, 9 parallel sub-forums were held, including the Deep-Sea Mineral Resources Development and Utilization Science and Technology Frontier Forum, the "Three Deeps" International Forum, the Deep-Sea Science and Deep-Sea Archaeology Forum, the "Marine Science and Technology Innovation for the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals" Forum, the Innovation and Development Forum for Small and Medium-sized Marine High-Tech Enterprises, the Offshore Wind Power and Port Operations Forum, the Distant Sea Aquaculture Forum, the Marine Oil and Gas Resource Development Technology Innovation Forum, and the Marine Oil and Gas Exploration Geophysics Forum.

Additionally, there were 5 parallel side events, such as the Advanced Deep-Sea Technology and Deep-Sea (South China Sea) Shipwreck Archaeology Theme Exhibition, the China Marine Engineering Design Competition, the "Smart Ocean Co-creation" Marine Robotics Competition, the "Yazhou Technology Tour" visit, and the National Marine Comprehensive Test Field (Deep Sea) Equipment Racetrack Evaluation Action (Phase I), as well as youth marine literacy enhancement science popularization and education activities, benefiting nearly a thousand people.
