IKCEST signed MoU with CEHICA

The International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology under the Auspices of UNESCO (shortened as “IKCEST”) signed an MoU with the National Institute for the Development of Water Resources of the Dominican Republic (shortened as “INDRHI”) and the Centre for the Sustainable Management of Water Resources in the Caribbean Island States (shortened as “CEHICA”) on October 12, 2016. Executive Deputy Director of IKCEST Song Dexiong and Executive Director of CEHICA Ing. Olgo Fernández Rodríguez signed the MoU on behalf of the two sides. Pan Yunhe, Co-Chair of the IKCEST Advisory Committee and member of the IKCEST Governing Board, Fu Xinrong, representative of the Office of Commercial Development of China in Dominican Republic and Zhang Yuehui, President of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Dominican Republic as well as representatives from both sides attended and witnessed the signing ceremony.

Second session of the First Governing Board of IKCEST under the auspices of UNESCO held in Beijing

The second session of the First Governing Board of International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology under the auspices of UNESCO (shortened as “IKCEST”) was held in the headquarters of the Chinese Academy of Engineering on September 5, 2016. The meeting was chaired by Chen Zuoning, Chairperson of the First Governing Board of IKCEST, and attended by board members Li Guojie, Hans D. Thulstrup, Zheng Nanning (represented by Zheng Qinghua), Otthein Herzog, Raj Reddy, Gao Wen, Pan Yunhe and staff members of the IKCEST Secretariat. Prevented to attend the meeting due to their other engagements, board members Eduardo M. Krieger, Du Yue and Zhong Zhihua all gave written approval to the documents motioned for deliberation by the Governing Board.

The second session of the First Advisory Committee of the International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology under the Auspices of UNESCO (shortened as “IKCEST”) was held in Beijing on the morning of September 5, 2016. The meeting was moderated by CAE Member Pan Yunhe and Prof. Raj Reddy, co-chairs of the First Advisory Committee. Nine members of the second session of the First Advisory Committee, as well as Hans Dencker Thulstrup, Programme Specialist for Natural Sciences of the UNESCO Beijing Office, system platform experts of IKCEST, representatives from various sub-centres and staff members of IKCEST Secretariat attended the meeting.

IKCEST delegation paid work visit to UNESCO Headquarters (2016)

The IKCEST delegation visited UNESCO Headquarters and reported on IKCEST’s various work on Category 2 data sharing platform construction on July 29, 2016. The delegation was warmly received by Flavia Schlegel, Assistant Director-General for the Natural Sciences Sector of UNESCO, and the two sides held in-depth talk.

MoU between IKCEST and RCUWM signed in Beijing

The International Knowledge Centre forEngineering Sciences and Technology (IKCEST) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Regional Centre for Urban Water Management (RCUWM) based in Tehran, Iran, on May 16, 2016, at Beijing Conference Centre. Song Dexiong, Executive Deputy Director of IKCEST,and Seyed Ali Chavoshian, Director of RCUWM attended the ceremony and signed the MoU. The ceremony was presided over by Liu Chang, Director of Division of International Cooperationof IKCEST. Liu Hongyang, Ma Yingchen, from the IKCEST Secretariat and other relevant personnel attended the ceremony.

UNESCO’s science centres comme together in China

The first global meeting of UNESCO’s Natural Sciences Centres opened today in Beijing, China, to discuss how they can best contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and strengthen cooperation. UNESCO’s Natural Sciences Sector counts with a network of 65 associated centres in the fields of water, renewable energy, science policy, biotechnology, geosciences, the basic sciences and remote sensing. Forty four of the centres were represented for this first meeting, together with four UNESCO affiliates: the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), the UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education, the World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) and the World Academy of Sciences for the Developing world (TWAS).

UNESCO Science Centres Coordination Meeting was held from 16 to 18 May 2016, at Beijing Conference Centre. A total of 160 participants from over 30 countries gathered in Beijing, including representatives from UNESCO Science Centres, the World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries, Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, UNESCO headquarters and UNESCO field offices.

On the afternoon of 18 November 2015, the first session of the First Advisory Committee of IKCEST under the Auspices of UNESCO was held in Beijing. The International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology (shortened as “IKCEST”) is a category 2 centre under the auspices of UNESCO. IKCEST was established in June, 2014. It’s committed to mobilizing the engineering science and technology research institutions, enterprises and universities globally, assembling data resources, discovering knowledge from big data and promoting its application.

IKCEST International Symposium 2015 on “Digital Knowledge for Science and Engineering” Held in Beijing

The IKCEST International Symposium 2015 on Digital Knowledge for Science and Engineering was held in Beijing Conference Center on November 17, 2015. More than 400 representatives attended the symposium, including about twenty internationally renowned foreign and domestic academicians and experts. The symposium lasted one day and was hosted by the Chinese Academy of Engineering and organized by the International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology under the auspices of UNESCO (shortened as “IKCEST”).
