On November 23rd, with the theme of “Transition-docking of global perspectives and ‘innovation of China’”, the China Association of Higher Education jointly with International Knowledge Center for Engineering Sciences and Technology under the Auspices of UNESCO (IKCEST), and Xi’an Jiaotong University hosted the “2017 Life-long Learning and Modern Education Service Summit” at the Xi’an Green–land Pico International Convention Exhibition Center in Xi’an China.
Vice president of the China Association of Higher Education, president of Xi’an Jiaotong University, Wang Shuguo, director of General Office of Chinese Academy of Engineering, executive deputy director of IKCEST, Song Dexiong, vice president and secretary general of the China Association of Higher Education, Kang Kai, Chair of the Executive Board of UNESCO, Michael Worbs, experts and scholars from home and abroad, senior management of universities and colleges, government officials, and representatives of well-known enterprises and influential media over 1,000 people participated this Summit.
Wang Shuguo, Song Dexiong and deputy mayor of Xi’an Municipal Government, Fang Guanghua addressed the meeting. Kang Kai, Michael Worbs and over 11 speakers gave keynote speeches.
Professor Wang Shuguo pointed out in his address that in the 21st century, people thirst for knowledge of science and technology, and the demand is far higher than it has ever been. Wherever a person is, he needs to constantly learn so as to keep pace with the development of modern time. Therefore, life-long learning will become the most significant characteristics of the 21st century. We should make life-long learning an important grip on the progress of human society, promote cultural exchanges and human prosperity.
Song Dexiong mentioned that by aiming at the talent demand of "the Belt and Road" countries and regions, through the Silk Road Training Base and other practices, IKCEST jointly with Xi’an Jiaotong University has trained more than 1,000 foreign students and export-oriented staff from 80 countries in the fields of big data, medicine, Internet of things and aerospace. With the help of information technology, it explored a development path oriented to "the Belt and Road" initiative, which has greatly enhanced the capabilities, efficiency and quality of modern education service in the era of "Internet +". He hoped that it can help cultivate professionally qualified innovative diplomats with global vision for Five-Connectivity and the spirit of silk road in the future.
At the opening ceremony, president Wang Shuguo, director Song Dexiong, deputy mayor Fang Guanghua, vice president Kang Kai, vice-president of Xi’an Jiaotong University, Zheng Qinghua, leaders of Education Department of Shaanxi Provincial Government, Xi’an International Trade & Logistics Park, Xi'an Road Port and the National Center for Open and Distance Education jointly launched the program of Silk Road International College of Xi 'an Jiaotong University.
The summit discussed new teachers education and teacher professional development service delivery mode in the "Internet +" background, focusing on the development and model of the life-long learning and the modern education services, integrating resources from industries in all-dimensions and to build an exchange platform where a variety of educational forms in the lifelong learning field meets the enterprise industry. The summit had two sections and over 10 speakers gave the keynote speeches.
