The 18th IKCEST Training Programme for Silk Road Engineering Science and Technology Development themed on New Functional Materails was held in Xingqing Campus of Xi’an Jiaotong University from October 28th to November 1st. It was co-hosted by the International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology (IKCEST) under the Auspices of UNESCO and Xi’an Jiaotong University, and organized by IKCEST Silk Road Training Base. A total of 88 students from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xidian University, Chang’an University, Xi’an Shiyou University registered for the workshop. They are from 11countries along the Silk Road including Pakistan, Ethiopia, Angola, Sudan, Thailand, Bangladesh, etc.
The opening ceremony was hosted by Chenling, Vice Dean of School of Distance Learning of Xi’an Jiaotong University. Gong Wending, Deputy Director of the Social Education Management Department of Xi’an Jiaotong University attended the ceremony.
On the opening ceremony, Gong Wending, Deputy Director of the Social Education Management Department of Xi’an Jiaotong University, introduced the IKCEST Silk Road Training Base. He hoped that the students could learn the core technologies and wide application of new functional materials as well as innovations and changes of technology integration in various fields so that they could serve the country better and promote the friendship and cooperation among the Silk Road countries.
Later, Mondy, Conty Evaristo Saeed, a representative of the foreign students from Xi’an Jiaotong University, gave a speech. He expressed his thanks to the leaders and teachers from Xi’an Jiaotong University for their hard work. They seized the rare opportunity and assumed the mission of cultural exchange in the new era. He has participated in many training programmes on Silk Road technology development with different themes and has obtained many innovative ideas as well as cutting-edge knowledge such as science and technology engineering, and Chinese culture. He wished that the Silk Road Training Base will be better and better so that increasing foreign students from the silk-road countries could benefit from it.
This workshop focused on the topic of New Functional Materials. The workshop included lectures such as Spintronics: A New Type of Electronic Functional Materials in the Era of Big Data, Advanced Ceramics and Composite Materials, the Application of Synchrotron Micro-Diffraction Technology in Materials Research, Nuclear Energy and Advanced Materials, Organic Electronic Materials, Thermal Spraying Technology and Application, the History and Future of the Belt and Road.
In addition, the trainees visited Xi'an International Port Area. The visiting contents included watching the planning propaganda film, Xi'an Railway Container Center Station, Lanbo International Shopping Center, etc., so that the students can understand the resource advantages of Xi'an International Port Area as a later training base.
The International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology (shortened as “IKCEST”) is a category II centre under the auspices of UNESCO. IKCEST was established on June 2, 2014. The Chinese Academy of Engineering is responsible for the operation and management of the IKCEST. IKCEST aims at providing knowledge-based services at a global scale in the form of consultancies, scientific research and education for policy-makers and engineering science and technology professionals in the world, with particular reference to the developing countries. In February 2017, based in Xi'an Jiaotong University, IKCEST Silk Road Training Base was established, which aims to train more engineering and technological talents for Belt-Road countries.
