Mrs. Zhang Xiuqin, newly-appointed Chinese Ambassador, Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, presented her credentials to Ms. Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO today.
She is the first Chinese Ambassador and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO after President Xi Jinping's visit to the Headquarters of UNESCO in March, 2014.
She assumed office when the discussion about developement goals of UNESCO after 2015 among the international communities was at the last phase.
Zhang Xiuqin was admitted to the Tianjing Foreign Studies College in 1978, and furthered her study twice in the UK. She started her work with the Ministry of Education in 1981. She served as the Secretary-General of the China Scholarship Council in 2004, and then Director-General of the Division of International Affairs of the Ministry of Education (MOE) towards the end of 2007.(From UNESCO Weibo, May 28, 2014)
